About

Ciao, plus welcome to Italy After 40.

This site is for travelers in their 40s, 50s, beyond — people who still want beautiful places, but would rather not rush through them. Unhurried days. A little indulgence where it counts. That is the whole idea.

Why the name says Italy

It started there. Lake Como, Florence, Turin — those trips are what made me begin writing, so the name stuck.

These days you will also find guides to Japan, where I live, plus other places I travel to. The destinations change. What does not change is who these guides are written for: readers old enough to know what they enjoy, young enough to keep going, with more money than we had at 25.

How I travel

Sometimes alone. Sometimes with my husband. Sometimes with my mother, who is 85 — which teaches you a great deal about pacing a day properly.

Every guide is based on somewhere I have actually been: real ferries, real cafes, real palaces, real sore feet. Prices, opening times, booking quirks — I write down the things I wanted to know before I went.

Grazie for reading, buon viaggio.
