Before Entering the Santa Maria Novella Flagship Store
The Display Outside

The display outside the store sets the mood while you wait in line before entering. Even standing outside, you’re already stepping into the Santa Maria Novella world.
The Waiting Area Inside

After about five minutes in the queue outside, you finally step in. The interior still carries traces of its days as a monastery, with architectural details that never get old. Even waiting here doesn’t feel like waiting at all.
Inside the Santa Maria Novella Flagship Store
All in all, including the outdoor queue, it took about ten minutes before we got inside. The moment you walk through the door, a dazzling world opens up before you — intricate reliefs everywhere you look.

Just inside the entrance, a magnificent chandelier commands the room. It’s genuinely breathtaking.

Beautiful objects and aromatic candles are displayed throughout the store — though with the crowds, there’s barely time to take them all in.
Santa Maria Novella Body Fragrances (Cologne, etc.)

The body cologne and fragrance section is simply divine. Brand-new releases were available to test on the day we visited.
Compared to online retail prices, the body colognes were roughly the same even with the tax-free discount — lovely to browse, but not a compelling reason to fill your luggage.

Santa Maria Novella Body Milk and Body Gel

The body cream and shower gel section. We were seriously tempted by one of the blue-scented options — fresh and light, exactly our kind of fragrance.
The 250ml body milk was around €28 (roughly $30 USD) — noticeably cheaper than buying through online retailers. This is the one product we’d call a genuine deal at the flagship store.

Santa Maria Novella Room Fragrances

The room fragrance section had a generous selection of aroma diffusers and candles.
Room fragrances were beautiful enough to justify buying one as a Florentine souvenir — the experience of choosing it here adds something no online purchase can replicate.
Santa Maria Novella Aromatic Candles

A stunning wall of aromatic candles. They’re so beautiful as decorative objects that you’ll want to collect them in every color.
Rose Water — Cheaper Here, But…
The rose water was priced at around €16 (about $17 USD). The elegant glass bottle is beautiful, though do consider the weight and fragility when packing. It’s also available on Amazon if you’d rather order from home.

Unfortunately, the lemon hand cream we were hoping to find wasn’t anywhere in sight.
Santa Maria Novella Potpourri: Tavoletta

This is a hanging room fragrance you can place on a doorknob or suspend anywhere in the room. Dried pressed flowers are set in wax — it’s as beautiful to look at as it is fragrant.
Completely won over by the display and the atmosphere, we bought the pink (rose) version even though the scent wasn’t our usual preference. A set of two was around €23 (about $25 USD).
In the end, it was all about the experience — this was a “souvenir from the flagship store” purchase than a bargain buy.
Santa Maria Novella Hand Cream
The hand cream section was so crowded we couldn’t properly browse. From what we could tell, the selection was impressive, with formulas to suit every skin type.
The beloved lemon-scented hand cream was nowhere to be found in the store.
Santa Maria Novella Soap
The soap is one of Santa Maria Novella’s most iconic souvenirs. The iris soap was priced at around €9 (roughly $10 USD) — a wonderful value for a handcrafted luxury soap. They make perfect gifts and are easy to pack.

Verdict: Should You Buy at the Flagship or Back Home?
The one clear winner for buying locally is the 250ml body milk — a genuine treat to buy at the source.
🛍️ 🌹 Find Santa Maria Novella Products on Amazon →
Fragrances are roughly the same price even with tax-free savings applied. Many products are available online if you’d like to reorder after your trip.
If you’re spending over €200 in one go, tax-free discounts may tip the balance — but carrying heavy or fragile items home is a real consideration.
That said, the Santa Maria Novella flagship store itself is an absolute gem. The interior is breathtaking — a former monastery turned perfumery palace. Even if you don’t buy a single thing, it’s worth a visit as one of Florence’s most beautiful and unique spaces. We wholeheartedly recommend it.
